Denim scrap project

So, during my denim tote bag workshops, a fair number of tiny scraps are trimmed away to be discarded. Over time, I’ve collected these scraps, unpicked the hems, unravelled the seams to reveal the magic discolouration that tells the story behind every pair of jeans.
I patched these scraps together on panels of calico and draped them into this sculptural skirt that weighs about 10kg. The silhouette was inspired by Comme des Garçon Spring-summer 2026 collection. And it might need some more internal support for it to show in the final garment.

Chanel inspired jacket - as seen in the shop window

I have finally completed my Chanel jacket. I must admit it is a bit harder to work in wool when the weather is a scorching 35ºC.
This project was inspired by my first student, Marjorie, who had recently completed a Chanel jacket workshop. I was fascinated by the amount of detail that went into the preparation and construction of this type of garment. Her jacket was almost entirely sewn by hand and had quite a tailored, more traditional silhouette. I don’t have the patience for that and generally prefer an oversized and boxier silhouette, so obviously, I adjusted the design. I really enjoy doing projects like this that allow me to learn and practice new techniques. I look forward to sharing these new skills with you in my workshops. Clothing swap at the KweektuinI'll be hosting a FREE repair and alteration workshop at the clothing swap event at the Kweektuin in Haarlem North on the 21st of March.
Bring a couple of pieces from your wardrobe that you just don't see yourself wearing again this spring / summer, and trade them in for something fresh. On the day, I'll be there to guide you through any tweaks you'd like to make to your freshly swapped acquisitions. Hope to see you there! |
