Basic top

This design is easy and beginner-friendly, but can always be made more complicated if you wish to challenge yourself.

Fabric: 1.5m light to medium weight, preferably a natural fibre like cotton or linen, because it is easier to work with, as well as being nice to wear. If the fabric is narrower than 120cm, buy extra. Prewash at 30ºC before your workshop. I stock a curated collection of suitable fabrics, so feel free to have a look.

Together, we adjust my standard pattern to fit your unique body and adjust the design to suit your style. This takes about 15 minutes.

Enjoy the luxury of a large, dedicated cutting table. My atelier is equipped with sharp fabric scissors and loads of pins, but you are also welcome to bring your own, if you so wish. Laying out the pattern pieces and cutting them takes about 30 minutes.

Sewing time depends largely on your skill level and desire for perfection, and can take between 1 and 3 hours. You will be working on a Singer sewing machine and overlocker, both of which are beginner-friendly and easy to get used to. If you have never used either of these before, I’d recommend booking a private lesson for your first class. This allows me to take you through the process of threading and practising without any other distractions.

Paper bag skirt

This design is easy and beginner-friendly, but can always be made more complicated if you wish to challenge yourself.

Fabric: Measure how long you’d like your skirt to be + 30cm, and this is how much fabric you’d need.
If you’ve chosen a lightweight fabric, you’d like a full skirt, or if your hips are bigger than 130cm, then double this measurement. For pockets, add an extra 25cm.
Preferably a natural fibre like cotton or linen, because it is easier to work with, as well as being nice to wear. If the fabric is narrower than 120cm, buy extra. Prewash at 30ºC before your workshop. I stock a curated collection of suitable fabrics, so feel free to have a look.

T-shirt

Picture
Making a T-shirt is a good introduction to working with stretch fabrics.

Fabric: The length of your body + the length of your sleeves + 30cm. For a short sleeve T-shirt, this would come to about 1m and long sleeves 1,5m
If this is the first time you are working with stretch, choose a cotton knit or cotton Lycra, something a bit stretchy, and that still feels stable. If you’re shopping online, this would be at least 200g. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you are welcome to use a viscose or bamboo fabric with 2-5% Lycra. Prewashing is only necessary if it is 100% cotton. I stock a curated collection of suitable fabrics, so feel free to have a look.

We'll adjust the standard pattern to fit your unique body and adjust the design to suit your style. This takes about 20 minutes, and this pattern is yours to take home for future projects.

Pants

This is a more involved project as you’ll be drafting a pants pattern tailored to your body, sewing at least one (but probably more) mock-up, tweaking the fit and adjusting the pattern until we are 100% happy. It does not require an advanced skill level but a fair amount of patience.

Fabric:
Mock-up: 2-4m of calico, which is available at my atelier for €4 p/m
Final pants: double the length of your pants (waist to hem) + 20cm. Medium to heavy weight, preferably a natural fibre like cotton, linen, or wool, because it is easier to work with and nice to wear. Prewash at 30ºC before your workshop (unless it is wool!). I stock a curated collection of suitable fabrics, so feel free to come and have a look.

Bring the pair of pants that fits you best, preferably not one with more than 2% spandex/Lycra. You’ll copy this pattern and make slight adjustments before cutting your first mock-up. This takes about 1 hour.

Sewing a mock-up takes at most an hour, a bit more if you choose to add a zipper. You will be sewing on a Singer sewing machine, which is beginner-friendly and easy to get used to. If you have never worked on a sewing machine before, I’d recommend booking a private lesson for your first sewing class. This allows me to take you through the process of threading and practising without any other distractions.
Sewing your final pair of pants very much depends on the design and your skill and perfection level. It could take anywhere between 2 and 6 hours.
